Bubbles: 100 % nylon, 2 oz/ 68 yds suggested gauge: 12 sts = 4" # 8 to 11 What an appropriate name! Here is a playful yarn composed of big puffs of soft plush nylon spaced on a tight chain. The puffs bloom when the yarn is dyed and look just like popcorn or bobbles when knit. Bubbles is great when used as an accent with other yarns--a row or two in garter stitch (the puffs want to migrate to the purl side) line up like popcorn on a string. If Bubbles is knit alone on a # 11 needle, and you are careful to knit the string only (not pulling the puffs through the stitch), the puffs line up next to one another, between each stitch, in perfect rows. While the fabric is loose and airy and may not be great for a garment, one skein makes a terrific scarf. We especially like two rows of Bubbles alternated with two rows of Surf in contrasting or complementary colors. Bubbles is a bit tricky to wind--make sure the skein is either on a swift or being held under tension by a friend when you wind--no chair backs here. Even if you make a ball on a winder, feed the yarn from the outside to avoid tangles. As with most of our yarns, Bubbles is available in all of our hand dyed colors, but below is a sampling so you can see how it dyes. |
